Below is a link to the correct way to practice the "Speed Set" and "Threading the Needle"! For those experts who complain about the "Cross Hand Push" after the two initial parries, they do not know how it is used in the gun technique "Crossing Darts"! It is one of the quickest and most effective techniques against a gun.

Charlie Wilson - died at the3 age of 76. Is that good or bad?
"We will see, said the Zen master"All ready my posting of the "speed set" and "threading the needle" on Youtube has brought out all the experts on defenses against guns, and what in their opinion will and will not work. For this reason I am posting my own credentials of what I have had to use in real life.
1. 3 real gun attacks - in two cases in fighting for control of the gun - the gun was fired. I am still alive.
2. Three knife attacks - 2 overhead lunges and one slashing attack. 1 scar from the slashing attack. I am still alive!
3. One attack against a shotgun. At my studio in San Jose an enraged husband bust into my studio, yelling were is that son of a bitch? I'm going to kill him. He did not get past me.
4. I have had to use the Tigers' Jaw, 4 times in real situation. Twice against a knife,
5. I have broke 3 arms (accidents)
6. I have broken a leg (on purpose) I had one student that was injuring students with his kicks. I warned him to control his kicks. He would not. I Freestyle him and just waited for him to kick. I broke his lower leg with a downward block!
7. I collapsed a lung (accident) I know the knee drop to the person back in "leap of Death" works because I collapsed Buck Lewis's Lung in a demo.
8. I have choke out many students to show them how effective choking is. I have had to purposely choke out people who challenged me that it would not work.
9. I have knocked out people with both kicks and punches. Many in old style
"Freestyle" back when contact was expected and there was no protective gear.
I have to admit I have never had to face a "terrorist" with an Uzi or AK47! I will leave that to all the Krav Maga experts.Warning: I suggest that many of you contact your attorneys and Law Enforcement offices about using: a Gun, Club, or Knives against an unarmed person, You cannot take a gun away for someone the use it to shot or pistol whip them. Just last week, two off duty police officers got into a fight with an unarmed man. They used their pistols to pistol whip him, Both police officers were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Most states have very strict laws about carrying and use of a knife in a fight!
Fact: Ed Parkers #7 and #8 Katas use clubs and knives against unarmed opponents, Explain that to the Judge and Jury!
Reality: In the early days of the Martial Arts, tough guys would come into your studio to challenge you. You would drop them on the spot. No going on the mat to Play games. Some time if we wanted to have fun - and some of my top students were there we would let them take turns with all of these tough "Bad Asses". It did not take long for the word to get out that we were for real! Those days are long over - now all these tough guys, once the get their asses kicked, run to their attorneys to sue you!
I am not the only one out their who have had to use Kenpo for real. Bart Vale has a lot of stories he can tell. So can Ted Sumner with his many years in Law Enforcement. The same is true of many Police Officers who face life and death situations every day!
I would like all of these "Self appointed -Experts" to post their credentials to show where they are coming from.
Let the controversy begin:
For the good of Kenpo and mainly American Kenpo - Joe Palanzo should take all of his American Kenpo videos off YOUTUBE! I have never seen any other Martial Artist in any style get as many bad posing as he gets. On his "Snapping Twig: video he has over 733 comments most of them stating how bad he is and what they think of Kenpo and American Kenpo. Below I am posting a link to his YouTube video so you can judge for your self. You only have to view about the first 30 seconds of his video - the scroll down to the scathing comments. If you want to defend Joe Palanzo do it under your real name on one of the discussion groups!

One of the most common questions is "What is the difference between "Tracys Traditional Kenpo" and Ed Parkers "American Kenpo"?
Reality: I can speak for "Tracys Kenpo" because I am TRACY!
When Ed Parker died, he did not pass his system on to anyone, nor did he appoint anyone or any organization to become the authority on "American Kenpo"!
Now there are many people who claim they are carrying on the tradition of American Kenpo. Most have changed it to the point that even Ed Parker would not recognize it. This is evidenced by those who now only teach 16 of Parkers original 24 techniques per belt. They now claim Ed had "Secret" manuals that had 16 techniques per belt.
The bottom line - What passed for 3rd black material now lets them claim 5th Black. Notice there are no Dan Ranking as required by the IKKA construction.
Some new American Kenpo manuals contain only 12 techniques per belt. I I just saw advertised on the web one American Kenpo system that only contains 8 techniques per belt!
The only Major player out there carrying on "American Kenpo" as taught by Ed Parker is Kevin Lamkin!
In the future I will be post videos on "youtube" when there is a real controversy about how a particular technique was originally done and why, opposed to new American Kenpo applications. That way you can determine for yourself, which is the better application!
I have posted on "youtube" a video taken as a preview of the new 6th Black and Theory DVD.
In any self defense situation there are three critical elements.1. You must recognize the attack
2. You must immediately naturalize the attack
3. Then, depending upon how serious the attack, you must neutralize the attacker to the extreme you may have to use deadly force to keep from being killed. One of the objects of the new 6th Black/Theory DVD, is to give you the theory and training necessary to make a self defense technique effective. After we give you the theory, then we also include many new applications.
The Following "youtube" video (with my son Mark) gives you two training routines that prepare you for a gun attack.
1. The first is the "Speed Set". In the original Ed Parkers studio in Pasadena this was practiced almost ever lesson. First to develop speed and second as a warm up. The object of the "Speed Set" is to develop, reactionary hand speed, that will clear the opponent's gun barrel, and the bullet, past your body before the opponent can pull the trigger. And if the gun does go off your body will be out of the line of the bullet. Reactionary speed mean you have practiced the "Speed Set" hundreds of time so when you come up against a real gun, you react with out thinking.HISTORICAL NOTE: Recently one of the "reality" based system bragged they were the first to use "Air Guns"!
Fact: Anyone can take away or disarm a person if the know the gun is not real, and there are no real bullets in the gun that can kill you.
In 1959-61 we used real guns - with wax loads. Don't ever try this yourself. We found out very quickly what it was like to go up against real gun. Not a wooden gun or water pistol,
I personally have looked down the barrow of three real guns. On two occasions the gun went off after I had deflect and grabbed the opponents wrist. In reality the gun was not close like we usually practice. I had to close the distance of about 3 feet. There was no time for thinking or planning. I just reacted automatically. Recently Bark Vale was telling me of a real gun attack were he had to cover almost 6 feet. He still has the gun he took away for the opponent.
"Train as you will fight, Fight as you were trained"
2. The second training set is "Threading the Needle. It is not enough that your initial move deflects the gun, you must now grab and control the gun hand and the gun. 'Threading the needle", practices hundreds of times teaches you to grab and control the gun/hand after you have first deflected the gun.
The two are not independent movements, one automatically must follow the other.
It is at this point, or during the initial movement that you injure or disable the opponent. If either of the first two movements fail, you may end up getting shot or killed. 1. Deflect the gun, so if the gun goes off your are not in line of the bullets path. 2. You must now gain control of the gun hand so the opponent cannot turn the gun back on you.

Representative John P. Murtha (MR. PORK) (D-PA) is a nineteen-term member of Congress, representing Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district HAS DIED!
The only ones who will miss John Murtha are all his corrupt friends, and lobbyist who over 38 years he gave, by (Ear Marking ) Hundreds of Millions of our: Tax Payers dollars!
John Murtha is the (Poster Boy) for everything that is bad about politics in both parties in Congress.
The earmark-mania is not unique to either party -- both Democrats and Republicans contributed to what Taxpayers for Common Sense estimates is 8,570 disclosed earmarks worth $7.7 billion in the bill that would fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.
But the Republican crossovers in particular have a lot at stake in the package. Two of the three Republicans that made it onto Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's "definite" list earlier Tuesday had authored 129 total earmarks worth $190 million, according to an updated list from Taxpayers for Common Sense.
Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., is actually the second-biggest earmarked, according to the list, with 64 earmarks worth $114 million. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., is a few notches down, with 65 earmarks worth $76 million. Both voted for the bill.
Also voting for the bill were Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., who has $86 million in earmarks; Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who has $74 million; and Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who has $25 million.Obama who promised to eliminate earmark - looked the other way, and signed the bill with 8,570 earmarks! Business as usual in Washington!
